It’s been a long, involved Christmas period and, thankfully, we’re starting to see the first indications of Spring. The Canada Geese are getting restless and I’ve even seen a primrose!
I will admit, I haven’t been taking as many photographs during this time. I’ve had a bug, I’ve enjoyed Christmas and even started salsa lessons! All of which have taken my time, but my classes have restarted and I have got back to enjoying using my camera again.
We went to Newgale for the first time in weeks, walking along the pebbles and basking in the sound and smell of the sea.
I’ve mentioned before that I find beaches to be quite difficult to capture on camera, particularly long stretches of sand like there is at Newgale. If you take a picture of the beach then, to me, it always feels disappointing. A snap of the whole beach never quite produces the same feeling that you had when you first experienced the coastline in front of you.
So you have to get creative. Why not take a photograph of something that sums up your feeling on the day.
The late January day today was cold but full of promise. Someone had made pebble towers, people were surfing. For this image, I set my camera to 1/6s; ISO 100 and f/22. For the previous two images, my camera was set at 1/250s; ISO 100 and f/4.
I was using the Canon 5D mkIV with a 28-105mm zoom (the setup that I use for videography). The images were cropped and straightened in Lightroom, with the final picture being desaturated to make a monochrome picture.
