Wiseman’s Bridge

We’re really spoilt in Pembrokeshire for beaches and coastal locations. Wiseman’s Bridge is in the south of the county, about a thirty minutes drive away from where I live.

The sun was low in the December mid-afternoon with some light cloud so I took the chance to shoot this directly into it. I did have to reduce the highlights in Lightroom but apart from levelling the horizon that’s all I did to this image in post processing.

I was using my wide-angle zoom on the little Canon M6 again so I decided to get down low to bring some foreground interest to the beach scene.

Luckily, the way that the waves were breaking today meant that they were curling over whole just metres away from the edge of the surf. The weather has been so miserable lately so this period of sunshine on a late December afternoon was wonderful. The offshore breeze caught the spume from the waves’ crests and pushed it back and I took so many pictures. The camera was set at f/10 and 1/500s at ISO 200 for all of these images. This picture was shot at a focal length of 37mm.

It was pure luck that I was there with that particular combination of wind and waves.

Maybe I could have taken some close up action shots of the surf with a telephoto lens but, in fact, I quite like how the wide angle lens has given each picture a context.

I hadn’t planned this photo shoot and I was lucky. But I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I know that I will be returning to this beach, with my camera, very soon.
